Joseph Foster Jr. Papers, 1803-1812.

Assorted maritime documents concerning ship master Joseph Foster, Jr. of Gloucester, Mass. Documents include a debenture certificate, consular certificate, bill of ladings, and invoices for cargo shipped to St. Sebastian on the Brig Cincinnatus in 1807, to Pointe Peter Guadaluope on the Brig Active in 1808 and to Gottenburg on the Barque Edward Henry in 1809. There are a couple of documents concerning the Schooner Swordfish including a Letter of Marque, bond for a Letter of Marque, and Articles of Agreement between the owners of the Swordfish and the Captain, her officers, and company. Includes a handwritten journal with summaries of meetings held by a group of ship masters and supercargoes of American vessels under capture in Norway during 1809, copies of correspondence sent by the group, a list of vessels captured (including the names of the master, supercargo and the ship's home port) and some songs.
